THE ICENI CLUB
During the "Minor
Goose chase" masterminded by John Frye on April 20th 1980 it was decided
that a Norfolk branch of the
M.M.O.C. should be formed. In the ensuing months John advertised in
"Minor Matters" and local press and a meeting was arranged in the Bell
Hotel in Norwich.
The branch was finally formed in
August 1980 when around 24 people made contact. Subsequent meetings were
arranged on a monthly basis at Brampton Village Hall. It was decided to
call ourselves the Iceni Club. Iceni being the followers
of Bodecea who roamed East Anglia ( like we do ). Many people came from
Suffolk as well as Norfolk hence the "Norfolk and Suffolk
Branch".
A further "Goose Chase" ( Treasure
Hunt ) was organised for the following May. From there on an annual
"Eastern Regional Rally" was arranged by the branch.
Bryan Gosling took over as Chairman
following the 1981 AGM when John stepped down due to his National
Committee committments.
Tricia Copps took over as Secretary
from Chris Smedley in November 1984 when Chris took the Treasurers post.
They remain in these post to this day.
Our members have a varied range of
cars of all conditions and we display at various rallies in & around
Norfolk and Suffolk and sometimes further afield to visit places of
particular interest.
We produce a Bi-Monthly newsletter
giving details of future events, as well as cars and articles for sale.
We are a friendly branch, our main
aim is to enjoy ourselves and cars in the company of others.
