MEETINGS
We take a break from meetings at Scole now to make way for the rally season. Our next indoor meeting at Scole Community Centre will be on October 17th, followed by a quiz to be kindly brought by Gordon Leaver. More details will be in future Newsletters.
RUNS
25th April - Drive It Day.
We hope some of you members will be able to join us on our first event of the rally season. This year the Morris Marina Club members, who have joined us on this run over the last few years, are kindly setting the route. We are to meet up in Morrison’ Supermarket car part at Clip Bush Lane, Fakenham at 9-30am for a 10am get away. We will take in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside including Wells and end up at the Collectors World at Downham Market.
For those of you who haven’t been to the Collectors World, it is well worth a visit. There are collections attributed to Barbara Cartland and Lisa Goddard with plenty of other bygones to look at. We have part of the car park set aside for us to display our cars, while we are there and also part of the tea room will be available to us. If you would like to join us let Tricia know in advance if possible so we have an idea of numbers attending. If you decide to come on the day, ring 07889-255393 and we will wait for you at Fakenham, as you will need a copy of the route. We look forward to welcoming you on the day as well as members from the Cambridge Branch. Thank you. A certificate of completion will be available at the Collectors World.
2nd May - Ipswich to Felixstowe Run.
Those of you who have booked in the 40th Ipswich to Felixstowe Run can meet up with other Branch members at Asda Supermarket just off the A14 at Ipswich. Martin has warned of road works along this road, so please give yourselves plenty of time to get there. We are assembling at Asda at 9-30am and will drive all together to Christchurch Park.
Please note that if you are not booked in on the run then you will not be able to join us. Again if you are intending to meet up with us let Tricia know so we can look out for you.
11th & 12th September - 30th Anniversary Run.
We begin at the Rare Breeds at Stow Bardolph near King’s Lynn on the Saturday morning. We have a guided tour and talk by a game keeper to start off our run with a farming theme. We travel on to the Post Mill at Stanton near Bury St Edmund’s taking in a lunch stop on the way. At Stanton we will also be given a guided tour. From here we will travel to The Cedars at Stowmarket for a meal and party to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. Martin has provisionally booked some rooms at The Cedars for those of you who would like to stay overnight. Let Martin know as soon as possible if you want a room. They are priced at £70 for a double/twin room and £60 for a single room. This price includes breakfast.
Sunday morning then sees us at the Suffolk Punch horses at Hollesley Bay with a look round and then followed by lunch. Martin will be holding auto tests and quizzes throughout the weekend. The fee for the weekend is £30 which includes entry to the places we visit. Meals will be extra. Contact Martin for more details and to book a room on 07954-037460 or email him at martinwallis57@btopenworld.com. It sounds as if this will be an enjoyable weekend, so we hope you will join us.
EVENTS
23rd May - 30th Anniversary Day.
On Saturday 22nd May we are having a barbecue at Boundary Farm, Langley home of Tricia and Jimmy Loades. It will be 6-30pm for 7pm and the fee is £3-00 per person. Brian Lloyd will be our chef for the evening. If you would like to join us let Tricia know so we can plan for food.
Sunday will be the main event. An auto jumble is being held and is open to all makes of cars. If you want to sell some of your surplus spares then a table will be £5. Some of you, I’m sure, would like to know the value of your cars, if not just for insurance purposes. So why not take the opportunity of bringing your car along and having it valued by Bryan Gostling? We ask that you give a donation for this service. Martin will be holding some auto tests, so you can get in practice for our September run. Paul Collison will also be coming along to help members out with any technical advice.
Please bring your car along with you as we will have a section for displaying our cars and one for cars for sale. Tricia and Jimmy will be compiling a road run with questions along the way. Other competitions include a “grope”, identifying the part, guess the weight of the 30th Anniversary cake, guess the name of the bear (kindly donated by Angie Leaver), lucky programme and of course a raffle. Those members who can help on the day please let Tricia know and we would be most grateful if you could donate a raffle prize. If you would like to organise a competition please also tell Tricia. All ideas are gratefully received. Our founder members, John Frye and Chris Smedley will be joining us during the day. Please do all try to come and support this event. Branch members will receive a memento of the day. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and overnight camping will be available for Saturday night if required, but will be with basic facilities. Please would you be able to let Tricia know if you will be attending this event, so we know some numbers.
