23rd September 2007 - Iceni Branch Run.
For this last run out of the season we had invited the Essex Branch to join
us, as we would be covering the roads of South Suffolk. But alas we only had
two join us with only three from our own Branch. Not a very good turn out at
all. But never mind, all of us enjoyed our day out.
It didn't start out at all very well, as when we arrived at Bury St Edmund's
the car park in front of the Angel Hotel was closed off for the Harley
Davidson rally. Plus there was a wedding fayre being held at the Hotel, so
ciaos. Not to be deterred we asked the Harley Davidson organisers if we could
park with them for a few minutes, but they wouldn't let us. So we all managed
to park at another little car park around the corner.
We then explored the Abbey Gardens for our first clue on the Treasure Hunt and
enjoy a welcome cup of tea. There were also Morris dancers putting on a
display in the gardens.
We then headed off towards Lavenham looking out for more clues along the way.
Here we looked around antique shops or visited some of the old buildings.
While here we saw some old push bikes including a Penny Farthing out for a
ride. Some of us enjoyed lunch here while others had a picnic at a site
called Foxearth. We were en route for Long Melford.
Some members went to look at a car for sale at Acton while others explored
Long Melford. We were all to meet up at 3pm at the car park in Clare. We
were joined by a Morris Minor from Acton who had seen us out earlier. Here we
had our Treasure Hunt papers marked and enjoyed refreshments made by Jacky and
Brian Lloyd. The winners of the Treasure Hunt were Essex Branch members
Steve and Sally Card with 11 points. They won a bottle of bubbly. The other
entrants Maurice and Maddy Wright, Pam and Owen Smith and Tricia and Jimmy
Loades each received a Iceni sticker and car air freshener. Owen then
presented Jacky and Brian with a bottle of wine each for organising the day.
We also thanked Martin in his absence for helping with the route. He did
actually text us from his holiday to tell us to have a nice day.
