23rd and 24th June 2018 – National MMOC Rally, Kelmarsh Hall, Northants

A few Branch members met up at Cambridge Services to head for our weekend stay at Corby so we could attend the MMOC National Rally at Kelmarsh Hall.  This event celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the Morris Minor and was set to be a good event.  We travelled to Kelmarsh Hall on the Saturday and set up our tent on Branch Avenue which this year the theme being 70 years of Broadway Musicals.  Many Branches had decorated their stands with themes ranging from Singing in the Rain to Oklahoma.  Our stand was situated next to the Dorset Branch and across from us was the Million Register with lots of lovely lilac beauties!

We had three vehicles on our stand which were Chris Mitchell’s Austin pick-up, John and Carolyn Hancock’s and Tricia and Jimmy Loades’ travellers decorated with 70th birthday balloons.  We saw a few of our other Branch members who were visiting or staying over the weekend.  Plus we also caught up with Horst Grengreif from Germany who had an autojumble stall.

The weather was very hot and on the rally field there were Morris Minors arranged in circles with a vehicle from every year of make plus some unusual/rare vehicles.  Also joining the 70th anniversary event were the 6/80 and MO Oxford and Cowley Club and Tricia was especially happy to see a line up of Morris Oxford MO’s!

We had been asked by the MMOC to raise some money for their nominated charity; Prostate Cancer UK, so we held a competition of guessing the Musical square.  Jacky and Tricia went around the rally field over the weekend and managed to fill 100 squares and we thank all those on the field who bought a square.  The winner, drawn out of a hat by outgoing MMOC Chairman, John Frye (our founder member of the Branch back in 1980), was one of our Branch members Martin Wallis and he received £20.  Martin then kindly gave back £5, so the total amount we raised for Prostate Cancer UK was £85.

A photo opportunity was held for members to have their photo taken with a model prototype of the Morris Minor, the Mosquito and the Mini with MMOC Secretary Ray Newell and John Frye and Tricia took advantage of this.
