23rd April 2017 – Drive It Day

Usually one of our members compiles a drive around the Norfolk or Suffolk countryside as our event for Drive It Day.  For this years Drive It Day we took a year off from organising our own run and joined in with a group of classic cars who have a run from Halesworth to Snape Maltings.  This takes place every year, but usually the week before, so we were lucky that this year it fell on 23rd April.  Nine of our members cars met up at The White Hart pub car park at Halesworth along with about fifty other classics, from 10am.  The cars ages ranged from 20 to over 80 years old and were a mixture of all different kind of marques.

Before we left we were briefed on the route and we all set off at 10-30am heading towards Snape.  All the vehicles attending were given out a St Georges flag to attach to the window, which was a nice gesture by the organisers.  Our route took us through some nice pretty Suffolk villages with lots of trees in blossom along the way plus all the various Spring shades of green.  The weather was also kind to us with lovely sunshine.

After travelling around 40 miles and passing through some road closures, we all made it to Snape Maltings in time for lunch.  Already on the meadow car park were the Jaguar Club and we were joined by other car clubs throughout the afternoon.  We spotted a black saloon outside the Snape buildings and this belonged to an Essex Branch member who was out with the Romford Ramblers for an afternoon and were then heading to Aldeburgh.  There were around 80 vehicles at Snape during the afternoon.

Our members attending were Martin Wallis with his traveller, Mike and Mary Stannard and Lou and Al Chapman, who both have white convertibles, Jacky and Brian Lloyd with their black saloon, Tricia and Jimmy with their traveller, Penny Robinson with her grey saloon, Chris Mitchell with his grey pick-up and two of our newer members, Alan and Janet Sayles and Roger and Jane Luddington with their green saloons.  Every member received a certificate to say they had completed the run and we hope that everyone had a lovely run out.
