17th September 2006 - Iceni Branch Run.
Fourteen members and family, five Morris Minors and one Marina assembled at
the Tesco Supermarket, Diss. We were handed around our route to take and left
at 10am heading towards The Queen's Head at Dennington for our coffee break.
After a welcome stop we set off again through the lovely Suffolk countryside
aiming towards our lunch break and visit to The Bygones Collection at
Sweffling.
At first glance you wouldn't think that the Rowe family home housed such a
collection of memorabilia called the "I Remember When" collection. But their
sheds had collections from hairgrips to trade bikes. One building was
dedicated to the old country kitchen where the Rowe family still made jam on
one of the old cookers. Another housed a collection of wedding dresses that
had been worn by members of the Rowe family throughout the generations. We
were also treated to the sound of their mechanical organ before being served a
most delicious lunch.
After our visit to Sweffling we headed to the Teapot Pottery at Debenham,
which had been converted from an old chapel. Although they were not making
teapots that day, a number of us had a go at painting our own pottery, which
would be glazed and collected by Jacky at a later date. We thanked Brian and
Jacky for organising such a lovely day out.
