The weather for the weekend was mixed. On Saturday the rain didn't stop
until well after lunch. So we didn't get many visitors. We decided that we
would move all the competitions into Jimmy Loades' barn, so that when the
evening visitors came to the barbecue they could at least have a go at
them. This idea seemed to work. We had 42 people at the barbecue on the
Saturday night, with two barbecue's keeping up with the demand for sausages,
etc. Jimmy Loades' celebrated his 50th birthday with a cake and a few
drinks. We had nine units camping, even if some were a little cold and wet,
over the weekend.
Sunday dawned sunny, if a little cold and breezy and the rain kept off all
day. Much better for the turn out of people. We moved all our competitions
outside in our tents that were already set up. At 11am we were joined by
thirteen cars from the Lowestoft Classic Vehicle Club led by Dick Talbot
from Pop's Place, who also had a stand. The ladies in the refreshment tent
were kept busy after they arrived with bacon rolls being supplied.
On the Sunday Martin Wallis and Jimmy Loades could be seen changing a clutch
in Martins' Traveller and Paul Collison was kept busy with tuning various
Morris Minors. Over the weekend we were joined by over fifty cars, which
was pleasing for our first event of this kind. Minor Services also brought
a stand.
The winners of our competitions were as follows:-
Photograph Competition: Dennis Loades had 4 out of 10 parts correctly
identified. Dennis received a photo album.
Treasure Hunt: Steve Day and family had 33 out of 36 clues correctly
answered and won a large tin of chocolates.
Compare the Cars: Nigel Cooper compared the Series MM with a 1000 Saloon and
had well over fifty differences. Nigel won a bottle of shampoo and sponge.
"Grope": There were 8 entrants who correctly guessed all 12 parts. These
were drawn and the winner was Martin Wallis who won a petrol can.
Guess the weight of the cake: Brian Lloyd was the nearest guess to 4lbs
10oz with his guess of 4lbs 12oz. Brian won the cake made by Tricia Loades.
Guess the weight of the Mini: The mini weight was 740kg and the nearest
with 756kg was Steve Peters. Steve won a model Mini and joined the Branch
on the day.
Guess the name of the bear: Wendy Saunders won the bear with the name Rosie
being picked.
Lucky Programme: Diana Biddlecombes' entry was drawn and Diana receives
£10-00 prize money.
Decorated Hat Competition: Judged on Saturday by Di Webb in first place was
Owen Smith, second Pam Smith and third Tricia Loades.
Well done to all those members that won a prize.
Thank you to all those people who took time to visit us and have a go at our
competitions. Thank you to all those members that helped with the stalls
and especially the refreshments. Some of our entrants came from as far
afield as York and Hertfordshire. We hope that everybody enjoyed the
weekend. We had four new members join us over the weekend and we also sold
a lot of regalia.
