10th August 2008- Norfolk and Suffolk Branch Rally.
We had a good attendance this year at our chosen venue of Kentwell Hall,
Suffolk. We had twenty-two various Morris Minors park along the driveway to
the Hall. The entrants were made up of mostly half of our Branch members and
the other half made up of the Essex Branch.
Entrants enjoyed the weather, despite it being windy, and the gardens of the
Hall. They could feed the Koi carp in the moat or share their lunch with the
many peacocks around the lawns. Of special interest there was the Yew hedge
at the rear of the Hall with shapes of the Pied Piper and followers cut in to
it, plus the carved tree at the front of the Hall.
Our prizes this year were for the Longest Distance which was won by Len and
Jeannette Carter with 143 miles travelled from Oxford. The Shortest Distance
won by ex-Branch member Dave King from Sudbury who travelled all of one mile!
The Oldest Car was won by Maurice Wright from the Essex Branch with his 1949
Series MM Saloon and the Newest Car was won by our new Branch member Ian
Hamilton from Haverhill with his 1971 saloon. The owner of Kentwell Hall,
Patrick Phillips was asked to choose his favourite car which was Lou Rocke's
traveller. Apparently Patrick had owned one this colour a few years ago.
The Marie Curie collectors joined us for part of the day and we enjoyed a good
raffle. Thank you to all those people who helped set up on the day.+
